Ontario is such a big and beautiful place with a lot of breathtaking views and locations to discover, if you are fortunate enough to drive. In the spirit of adventure and discovery we looked along the Ontario shoreline and saw this place pop up and we are so glad we decided to travel from Scarborough to Brighton to dine at the Whistling Duck. The food was delicious, the potato cheddar soup (not pictured) is absolutely unassuming and delicious, hearty and cheesy goodness. The fish and chips was crispy, well battered and had the right kind of crunch and flavour. I really enjoy the vinegar heavy coleslaw. One of the best things about this restaurant aside from the food and water views, is learning some history. From the name of the restaurant and the tapestry on the walls, I learned about Ogetonicut, a member of the Ojibway, who was accused of murdering trading post operator John Sharpe near Lake Scugog. Ogetonicut avenged his brother, Whistling Duck who Sharpe had killed. Ogetonicut was being transported for trial aboard the HMS Speedy, a British armed schooner however the ship ended up in a terrible storm on October 8, 1804, and sank in Lake Ontario near Presqu'ile Point.
An early dinner with a friend was our first time visit to this unique restaurant overlooking the water. The food was excellent and the server was well versed on the meal selection advising a specific in-house sauce on my chicken wrap... delicious. This place deaerves a definite return visit.
Great spot for a quick lunch on the patio. We will definitely be back for dinner service.
Visit Sunday August 31, 2025, party of four for lunch. Ample parking, mobility impaired accessible. The outdoor patio has a lovely view of the water. Menu and beverage options quite good. Food ordered delicious.
Great local restaurant, definitely the best in town. I’ve been here a few times and always been happy with my experience. I tried their new smoked turkey club and it’s excellent; juicy meat and well seasoned. Love the garlic focaccia too. I also recommend the fish and chips. Servers are friendly and quick here too. The patio in the summer is great.
Came here on a rainy day and had an excellent lunch with a great view! With the rain and the season eating out on the patio was not in the plan, but we were seated next to the windows and had an excellent view of the water that was beautiful to watch even on a gray and rainy day. The windows are a large part of the restaurant so even when not seated right next to them there is a good view. There were plenty of seats available and we were seated quickly, though there was a steady stream of people coming to the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and quick with our service, and all of the food was great! The portions were a good size and we all had dessert. The desserts were generous in size and absolutely delicious. All around it was a fantastic lunch! Would stop on again if in the area.
