Whale Bone – Jammie Closest thing to a perfect restaurant experience we’ve personally had. Exceptional seafood, outstanding meats, huge portions, attentive service, and thoughtful pacing throughout the night. We started with a prosecco and a Pinot Grigio while waiting about seven minutes to be seated. The restaurant was completely full most of the night, but service never felt overwhelmed. First up were eight oysters, requested as small as possible, and they nailed the request. The oysters were incredibly fresh, but what elevated the experience were the accompaniments. The sauce options were unique, and after every oyster they provided a whiskey palate cleanser, which was an amazing touch and made the course feel very refined. Easily a 10/10. We specifically asked for the bone marrow and burrata salad to come after the oysters, and the timing was perfect. As soon as we finished the oysters, the next dishes arrived. The bone marrow was massive, easily one of the biggest we’ve ever had. The marrow itself was rich with a slight vinegar note that worked very well. Onion and pomegranate paired nicely, though we would have liked additional options like Dijon mustard. The bread could have been slightly softer. Still around a 9/10 overall. The burrata salad was fresh and well balanced, but we did not think the croutons were necessary since the dish already came with bread for spreading the burrata and salad onto. With both included, it became a little too bread heavy. A light balsamic drizzle would also improve the dish. One standout service moment came when staff offered complimentary Talisker 10 Year whisky shots for a nearby birthday celebration. Before offering them, the server asked whether we were driving, which we appreciated. The mains arrived after about twenty five minutes. The Wagyu flat iron steak was excellent. Properly seasoned, very savoury, and cooked exactly as requested with a great crust. The pork belly was the best dish of the night. Extremely tender, packed with flavour, and paired with coconut shrimp that worked surprisingly well. The mushrooms were excellent with a huge portion size. The fries were still good, but the weakest item only because everything else was so strong. The cheese could have been layered more evenly instead of concentrated on top. One small issue was that the steak, fries, and mushrooms arrived warm rather than hot, but the flavour quality made up for it. Service remained consistently attentive throughout the entire night. Water glasses were constantly refilled even though a jug was left at the table. The atmosphere leaned more casual than fine dining, which suited the experience very well. We skipped dessert only because the portions throughout the meal were huge. Looking around at other tables, the dessert portions also looked very generous for the price. Whale Bone delivered one of the best overall dining experiences we’ve had, especially in the first half of the meal where the execution, pacing, and attention to detail felt nearly perfect.

A really cute spot for a first visit and it would be ideal for a date, outing with coworkers or girls’ night. It was actually my first time ordering oysters on my own, the server was patient in explaining everything, which I loved. Sometimes when you dine alone, the service can be a bit off, but overall it was very warm there. I knew going in that the restaurant would be on the pricier side, which was not an issue for me, though I can see how it might be for others. Small thing I wish they offered was toasted bread (bread came a bit cold) with a bit of salt. The butter was beautifully whipped but unsalted, so it felt like something was missing. I really enjoyed my 12 oysters and Parmesan fries, however, when I received my 7 oz dry aged steak cooked medium well, it was unfortunately very dry and quite hard to chew. I cannot even imagine how their well done steaks turn out. Next time, I might try medium instead. At one point, I think the owner or someone important came by, but they did not properly introduce themselves. When I tried to order my entrée through him, he redirected me to my server. If I had known who he was, I probably would have asked more questions to better understand the restaurant (or simply take my order). Overall, it was a good experience. I would definitely come back, whether for another solo outing or with others.

Incredible experience, I had the seafood pasta and it was so mouthwatering!!! Today was my first time but it already scored to be my favorite dinner spot in Ottawa! Even though this is a known spot for seafood my friends tried the meat and hamburguer and it was really great too! The service is also amazing, and it’s very interesting that they also do events and have an oyster festival coming up soon!! Totally recommend

Dropped in to enjoy some fresh oysters and sat at the oyster bar. The service and staff knowledge were truly outstanding — honestly, some of the best I’ve experienced in years. The team was exceptionally attentive, making me feel genuinely pampered, all while maintaining a friendly, kind, and welcoming attitude. Kudos to them. Fresh Oysters I started with a dozen oysters and appreciated the excellent recommendations. They were fresh, full of flavor, and offered with a great selection of condiments, toppings, sauces, and garnishes. The freshly grated horseradish stood out with a bold, spicy bite — excellent. Bone Marrow While the presentation was lovely, with pomegranate seeds and greens, the portion was disappointing. At under 3 ounces for $35, the value felt quite steep for what is meant to be the main component of the dish. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this item based on portion and pricing. Seafood Chowder Absolutely delicious — rich, full of seafood, and bursting with flavor. Overall, a great place with incredible service and very strong seafood offerings. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fresh and cooked oysters and seafood.

We called for last minute, same day reservations and got lucky with seats at the bar. Staff was so kind on the phone and didn't make it seem like we were troubling them. Sitting at the bar was such a fun experience. The staff were all so kind. The vibes were intimate, romantic yet somehow still homey, cozy and comfortable. The pair of customers that joined us not long after we got our appetizers was so nice and fun. They seemed like happy regulars to this establishment. We had such a great time.

My husband and I decided to try Whalebone for date night, and safe to say we’ll be back (hopefully with a bit more self-control next time). The place was happening on a Saturday night. It was packed, buzzing, and full of good energy. Not exactly a quiet, candlelit kind of evening, but more of a lively, “this place must be good” vibe, which made it even more enjoyable. Our waitress, Tiffany, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and always seemed to show up right when we were thinking we needed something. For drinks, my husband went with a Caesar and I had a spicy margarita, both delicious and very easy to keep sipping. For food, we started with oysters, the best I’ve had in Ottawa, no exaggeration. Then we shared the hot seafood platter with fish cakes, shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, and mussels. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and honestly hard to stop eating even when we were full. Then came dessert, which we absolutely did not need but ordered anyway. The cheesecake was fine. Not bad, but definitely something we could have skipped without missing out. All in all, it was an amazing night with great food, and next time we might try to leave a little room for better decisions at the end of the meal. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a great date night at Whalesbone on Elgin. We sat at the bar, and Chelsea provided excellent service—friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The oysters were incredibly fresh, and the selection was great. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine, a few oysters, and unwind after work. We’ll definitely be back for another happy hour or date night.

This is a very popular seafood restaurant so make a reservation before going. The food was amazing! I had a filling salad to start, the entered the Nova Scotia Salmon and I had the tres leche cake for dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious . The atmosphere is more dark lounge/bar with good music in the background. Enjoy!!!
