Going up island? Stay on the #1 right through Nanaimo and stop at Alice’s Restaurant. You will find it upstairs at the far end of the Value Lodge, west side of the highway. I have been there twice now and it doesn’t disappoint. Interesting atmosphere with huge plates of very tasty food. Just look at the pictures! The size of those pancakes! You are looking at simple breakfast orders for 3 ladies. If you have young children don’t order them meals. You will be able to feed them from your plate. If you have teenage boys, you will be able to fill them up without spending a lot. Service, well in fairness it was busy but great food takes time to prepare.

Great diner with excellent prices. Places like this don't get enough credit for being able to compete with the big name restaurants. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to stay a float. Everyone should be trying to support local, especially places like this. Keep up the good work!

My first experience upon entering wasn't very pleasant because it's an old building, but the service and the taste of the food ended up making us fall in love. Excellent service, good price, and good size. I recommend it. I hope they can renovate and have access for people in wheelchairs. This would be ideal.

My first time visiting the Island (drove in from White Rock), and wanted to stop at a local diner. I ordered the clubhouse with a side of fries and a blueberry milkshake. Everything tasted to perfection. Surprisingly, a lot of places don’t put crispy bacon on their sandwiches, but Alice’s Restaurant had some of the best crispy bacon. So delicious, and I just might have to stop back in on my way home.

Misha was an amazing host and server. The food came cooked just the way it was asked for and was hot and fresh. Very small town breakfast restaurant feel and a definite must see. Warning : Not wheelchair accessible. There's half of flight of steps up into the restaurant and a couple flights between the eating area and the washrooms.

We tried their speciality chicken and waffle and their Benny bowl. Both were super good and we were impressed! The hash brown was cooked very well and so were the waffles. Service was quick for a Saturday lunch.
